Actually ALL can be yours……………….

this blog’s idea came up from reading the current New York Mag…an article where David Koch said “Father always wanted me to have less money than my friends so I would appreciate it..” he went onto to be a common ditch digger for a pipeline system in western Okalahoma……and now is the second wealthiest man in NY behind Bloomberg…is worth somewhere around 17.5 billion….something I have NO concept of….

I DO KNOW that the work ethic..the importance of an education…that is whipped into your mind by your parents in your teens and before…..well is sooo soo invaluable….something you have NO conception of until you get older…..

for me having to work on the Great Northern Railroad as a common laborer when I was in my teens ..well was a TOTAL eyeopener…..which I totally HATED at the time……but look back and marvel at…

back then a group of us – 120 men only….lived for months along the Great Northern Railroad in N Dakota …amid beautiful wheat fields…near small towns with one cafe type diners….laying “ribbon rail” quarter of mile rail ….that could only be laid in the early morning before the day heated up as iron expands when it gets hot …..

so we would get up at 3 AM – have breakfast (now that I think of it is like my schedule today)……and be out by 4 AM taking up the old rail and laying the quarter mile sections…..I was put in charge of two things….throwing out physically the old ties that had been sawed up by a machine..that had missed throwing them out away from the track……and then physically hammering into the ties any spikes that the machines did not….and I must say I got eventually very good and could hammer in a spike right on with three over headed slams of my sledge hammer…which was a VERY good feeling…as opposed to the spikes that went flying through the air ..that I lost…and had to get a new one out of my cloth waist bag…and start again….and then there were those that went in at the wrong angle that did eventually hit the plate that held the train track to the tie…but I was pissed it was not right on in directly….

back in those days it was WAY before safety issues really existed..we did not wear safety helmets…..or safety goggles…or actually anything…it was just what MEN were supposed to do….

like the men that screwed the local loose ladies in the small towns we were side tracked to…and also those who did not report to work but appeared suddenly ..drunk in the wheat field we were working next to…I mean they would pop their smelly bleary eyed bodies up all of a sudden and “Cap” would say..”oh that is where you fucker have been…get your ass working if you want a pay check…..’

well I coming from St Albans…a prep school in DC….had never experienced anything like this before….yes I had been bullied….and knew that I was different …..

we roomed in a reconverted passenger car…that had bunk beds in it…..that was on a siding near one of these small towns in the wheat fields of N Dakota…..I think there were 2 other guys that came from prep school….as I remember our first night at dinner – which was served in these long train cars….benches against the wall on both sides…a table down the middle….everyone sat on their bench in the order of seniority….which meant that us summer people were LAST…..the “chefs” would come through the car and slop down the food…and when “Cap” said “OK” we would all pull our bench to the table and grab for food as fast as we could as it was Darwin’s law…those who did not fight and grab got nothing….

but that first eve I do remember that my friend from prep school – got violently ill …as none of these men bathed….and they REALLY stank……though there was a shower car……..

but when you are with a smell for awhile your mind gets use to it…well accepts it…..

we worked from 4 AM til 8 AM when we had “lunch” a spam sandwich in the field…and man did it taste good….and then we broke at noon to go back and have “dinner” at 1PM….and after that we were left on our own to do whatever…go into town and cruise the local girls…..get drunk or whatever…tho this state did not allow liquor being sold ….at that time..so don’t know where guys got it….but like most thing in life there is a way to find things….

I was of course the odd duck…after “dinner” at 1 PM ….. I would take one of my books and walk way out into the wheat field…plop down and escape into a world that was created by what I read….it was quite wonderful unitl I realized I had to go back to go to bed by 7 PM …..in a Northern State where the sun set late in the summer…

and listen to those guys taunt me as I was not one of the boys…..in their defense none of them did anything physically to me …like Henry Murray did and Eddie Stowe did to me daily at my prep school St Albans…..man that is the only time I learned the word “hate”….

I totally appreciate my life..what I have and am given daily…..

you see at the end of the day we all can have the “penis, pussy, money, and Nirvana” concept…

Just BELIEVE in YOURSELF, LOVE LIFE and GIVE TO OTHERS!!!!!
