Coming Home

February 21, 2013

When I was in High School….which I hated….

the most comfortable time of the day was when I would go home …race down the stairs to the basement…to sit on a stool and listen to our Black laundress…feed me the comfort of her stories….as she ironed my Father’s white shirts……

I have the same comfort listening to a dear  friend  RADIATE  Life…to the point when we were in a restaurant tonight…our server…HAD to come back to our table…repeatedly….just to listen to her stories..he even made, on purpose, the mistake of bringing wine glasses which we were not partaking of …and he said I just had to listen to the end of your story…so excuse me….he would leave each time with an Enormous Smile…..

quite honestly it MADE his evening….he was born in LA but grew up in Idaho…he has never been close to his father…..is 27

Black American Women are truly OUR  Treasure…..the roots extending from Africa  into slavery….stories, songs, dance,  religious beliefs are genetically passed down through each generation….it is something white women never had nor ever will….

we both – now – in our after 60 years – believe that everything – every moment good or bad…has it’s reason….that the glass is ALWAYS half full …if a dear friend dies…it is to teach us something….which we might not know at the moment…but will understand later….

“Home” is where we have peace of Mind

I recently subscribed to the “Oxford American”…as I read in the Huff Post  that it was a  hidden gem …and the recent mag is devoted to “Southern Music”…. enclosed was a CD of “The Music Of Louisiana” …it is full of wonderful articles…one about a gin joint in the back woods outside of New Orleans  that serves just Fabulous Food with the Most Wonderful Music…..

Home is a place of Mind…rare people…wonderful food…wonderful drinks….and a lot of shared  laughter……

Well Louisiana  is where we are heading next
