C’est La Vie!!!

December 8, 2016

I awoke the other morn – 4:30 the clock read…in a cold sweat….as I could NOT remember my address…

My dear friend Ken told me of how he realized his mother had the beginning of dementia when someone asked her at a party….. where she lived….

She had to get up and go look at the address on her driver’s license…

So I bolted (well sort of at 70) out of bed to look at my checkbook….as the address I thought I lived at began with 1342  which was the address I lived at 15 years ago..I live now at 7591….

I thought “Oh Dear!!” it is Happening…my worst fear….

And then I got an envelope from my friend “G”….opened it thinking it was a Christmas/Holiday card…on the front was a picture of 3 kids…with American Flags…opened it and it was blank….

So I thought maybe the mail had screwed up and sent me an old invite to a 4th of July party ….but then I looked at the date stamp of the PO..and it said 06 Dec 2016 San Bernadino…….

So this eve I thought I would write everything down for my dear Nacho…who has the responsibility of looking after me …should I Ever get my worst fear….Alzheimers…and should I …

I would really like anyone who cares for me and Life the way it should be lived…do what my mother once asked me to do

…she never had Alz tho

Mother once said “If I get “Vague” (as they called it back then)

…just come to see me in my hospital bed with your dry cleaning…and as you exchange pleasantries with the nurse…just forgetfully drop that drycleaning over my face…as I Have Strong  Lungs…inherited from my Mother who was an Opera Singer…

no one will notice…..and I will Love you More!!!”

So after coming back from the Library where I am doing daily  research on my book…

I am writing a book about my mother…well my family and All of YOU ….but putting you all  in the period after the “Great War”

..WWI…when everything changed in England…with the massive change in Equality…women’s rights…the Upper Class were finally taxed….the period of the “Bright Young People”

It is the period that my Mother grew up in…well really a tad after …as she was born in 1916…..the Gatsby era here….this is the 20’s 30’s

And thinking of “The Great Gatsby”…I went to school with F Scott Fitgerald’s grandson…Timbo Lanahan….at the “Private School” St Albans in DC….I always loved Timbo..as he was odd…would pick up ants off the sidewalk and eat them……different as I was at that time…

he was bullied by classmates…but not as much as I was,  he was taller like his father who was married to “Scottie”…Fitzgerald’s daughter…by Zelda….

They lived in a Fabulous magical house in Georgetown in DC….will never forget the birthday parties Scottie  use to have for his classmates…there were 50 some of us…no Blacks until 8th grade…when Frank Snowdon was admitted…he later became a dean at Yale

But that house had like a courtyard in the middle….and a secret door where you could go from one area of the house to the other side …..which reminds me of my Aunt Mimi’s house on Summit Avenue on St Paul…as she had one …that my Uncle Sumner told me about….

I was saddened when I heard many years later that he had committed suicide……

As I have “cut the cord”…tho there is a TV in one of the guest bedrooms…the cable is paid by the HOA….so I usually peruse Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, HBO, Masterpiece….

Tonight I watched a movie on Netflix, I have not seen since it came out…..which I think was in 2001 ..”Amelie”….

Well I have NEVER laughed so much….it is TOTALLY me…and I want the first 15 minutes played at my funeral..when she has grown and is listening to the death of Princess Di on TV as she is applying perfume..

But the young Amelie reminds me of what I think of my niece..(6 yrs??)  Ona being like and also her wonderful mother…Laura

As an older French lady whom I met in ‘64 … I was sitting at the bar in   a casino in Vegas

..she had that old fox  wrap on …where a foxes mouth would clasp onto its tale…it WAS the rage back in the 50’s…Mom had one….it was for people who could not afford mink…

She was smoking…had crooked teeth…but a Wonderful very red lipsticked smile….and a Wonderful scent…..

I was all of 18…trying to open a pack of cigarettes…..and was totally unaware of the “Proper” way of doing it…..

She said “Oh Non….oh No…

Theeese is the way you do it….”

She took the pack of cigarettes  and showed me……

it is one memory in my Life I will always Treasure
