She Called

January 20, 2017

There is something about “getting Older”….ageing….

one does Become wiser…and excuses those younger with their  wildness and their rebellion….that most of us went through….

It is so normal to revolt against your parents to show your individuality…..to prove Really …….yourself to Your Self!!

I saw the movie “20th Century Women” and fell in love once again  with Annette Bening….she is Sooo soo Wonderful….

She reminds me so strongly of my older sister Daidie….who went through the Haight period in Berkeley….as I was wading thru the Hippies in West Hollywood as they blocked the doors on Sunset Blvd to many of THE nightclubs and restaurants…preventing many a diamond dripping fur laden ladies entering…..

Gosh what those kids could have done if they had what they have today…Twitter and Facebook on their cell phones……

I Think it is Sooo Fabulous….the way the “Women’s March” has been organized…my dear friend Meg Steedle is one of the marchers with her hand knitted “Pussey Cat Hat” ready to march tomorrow in DC (?)….

and WOW the turnout for tomorrow’s in LA…gosh I so wish I could be there…the list is a Who’s Who of Fabulous Women!!!

Watching the Inauguration speech today was painful for  me..

as it was like the Glass is Half Empty ….

And yet to me it is  only “Half Full ” because we have been able to make it so…

as we march on to Fill it UP

The movie “Twentieth Century” …well it hit me as it is like the house my sister owned in Berkeley …..after she and her dear husband split…full of everything…many lodgers….

she had a snake …gosh his name (Norman??) has escaped me….

her doors were always open to anyone….it was a BIG 3 floored shingled house…wooden…looked like a ship….she had fabulous dance parties there…there was a big old walk in  Safe..(left by the previous owners) in one of the rooms as I remember….

She drove a VW bus/minivan….and always had a friend who sat next to her…a model (as in Dept store dummy)…named “Maxine”…I think…..

On her dash there were many precious feathers and bones she would find on the beach or walking through the woods of Northern California….

And this is before seat belts and headrests….

And YUP…she still drives without headrests….I am still waiting to part this earth as she slams her breaks on and my neck is snapped…and she says “Scoozie”….

sort of a wonderful way to go now that I think of it…

I Now…sort of Do miss that period with  the lack of technology…Facebook..Snapchat…Instagram…..

back when refrigerators were Ice Boxes…with a block of ice..in it…and one did not know anything but an “out house” as their john…

were things more difficult then?…NO as one did not expect anything more……but I Totally embrace the changes…it is just that I wish younger people could have experienced…oh shut up…they won’t and they don’t

when I first use to visit Daidie and David…..on Grizzley Peak in Berkeley….they were just the normal Berkeley couple with two adorable sons…

I use to wake  up and  go down for breakfast and see David…. their kids…..Elliott…and Owen… dancing totally nude to some rock music as Daidie (clothed) was making the scrambled eggs…

I mean back then it was so natural and not surprising….

Annette’s house in the film…was similar though set in the late 70’s early 80’s….

It was full of Adult kids curious about life…something I Have always been…..

The film really touched me at the end….as it made me appreciate my sister more….

The weird thing is as I was leaving the parking lot after seeing the movie today in the rare rain in the desert where the Obama’s are landing….

She called me….

Good one again, I remember my Dear Mother–saying “Dick now sit up straight when you are at the table, don’t slouch. ” Always after me to hold in my lip as I had thick lips, wish she were here now to tell me that. R&R
