“It Would Be Like an Elephant Trying to Crawl Through a Cat Flap”

February 28, 2017

I listen to  Jo Wood on BBC London every morn as the sun rises and   I start to awake…

For some reason this expression just made me smile and sit up….

As there are certain things in Life that you think ARE impossible ….

Until they happen…

It is funny how one awakes…with a BLARRRING Alarm….or naturally when one KNOWS one should….as I did every  of the 25 years I worked at The City Of Weho…I was allowed the schedule of getting to work at 5 AM every morn so I could go to my gym and have lunch (a 2 hour break)…at 9:30 and leave at 4 by a Super Wonderful boss….Joan English….just a wonderful Human!!!

I will never forget her “interviewing” me for the  job as one of her assistants…as when I entered her office in a  suit…she asked WHY I was wearing it…as I WAS hired…

This is .after my dear friend and her’s “Jimbo” was murdered by his partner….something I will NEVER forget….. the day I came home to find the street taped off…(they allowed me in since I lived there)…there were helicopters buzzing the area..sharpshooters on the roofs……I pulled into the driveway of our building…parked…and as I was walking up to my apartment a female Sheriff’s deputy met me on the stairs…and said I COULD not come in….that Jimbo had been murdered and that I did NOT want to see the scene….as it would haunt me forever…

He had been murdered in his bathroom by his domestic partner…Roman…

There are different kind of alarms…as this day I was driving out as Roman was arriving at the building carrying a bundle of laundry….when I stopped to talk to him…he merely said Rob… Jimbo has done me wrong…it just Felt wrong to me…

I knew Jimbo whom EVERYONE loved was bored with Roman..

for Jimbo it was the chase that he loved…(yes it is/was wrong but some people who  have Never been loved by their parents…it made sense to me)

For Jimbo catching as many  lovers as he could  was proof to him   that he was worth something….

He had been  left by his mother on Kauaii with his father when  his mother took all of the rest of the kids with her for her new life in San Diego…Jimbo was quite young and NEVER understood Why he was left ..

Alone …

he told me  he did not want to go to a psychiatrist…as he just did NOT want to find out…as he was so Happy with his Life…(and this guy is the ONLY person I have Ever known  who got so excited and Happy ….by traffic jams on the freeways around LA……as he grew up on an island with No traffic …much less freeways..it always made me pause and take stock of my Life)

His father worked at construction   ….sandblasting …but Jimbo said that once when his father was mad at him he took the gun he used for sandblasting that had pebbles  in it….and shot  Jimbo…

there were several Still lodged in his leg that he showed me…..all of those years later…..

I realized later that Roman was carrying a handgun in his laundry that morn…..

Jimbo had awoken in a Happy state..as he was to pick up his new/used Mustang that I had co-signed for….his girlfriend Monique was going to drive him out to pick it up…..and when Roman banged on the door…Monique would NOT open the door as she was scared of Roman…so she went into Jimbo’s bathroom to tell him that Roman was  at the door…

He grabbed a towel and said No Worries…I’ll take care of him….

Monique went into the living room and Jimbo opened the door…Roman came in with the laundry….they went back into the bathroom….

Monique heard several gunshots…fled out of the Living Room, through the Dining Room….to the kitchen and back door….descended to the garage…the security gate was locked..so she fled up the back stairs to the apartment above….and fortunately they were home…..

Roman after killing Jimbo ran through the living room…dining room… and kitchen ….to kill Monique….

Not catching her …he went back  to Jimbo’s bedroom and shot himself

Oh my word, at least he wasn’t mad at you because you could had been the first casualty for a long string of murders or maybe it was just fate that had you leaving at that exact moment.

Oh Rob – that is SO heartbreaking – every time I hear about it – more comes out and you write about it so powerfully. It IS one of those things you occasionally read about, but never actually experience. Maybe you should write a longer piece about Jimbo – from the first time you met him – all the way through. The wonderful person he was, is always evident whenever you write about him. As is the horror of what happened. The two, side by side, is what’s so heartbreaking. xx Daidie
