Best Drag Joint in the 80’s… Plaza in LA..I do miss so………….

October 17, 2018

I have been so turned off  by what is on most streaming services lately…seems it is violence or well just Negative or odd like the shrill Jennifer Garner in “Camping” on HBO… so I have started to watch “Gay” films on Netflix…as most are like life but usually end on an Up note…..

Well I just watched the Cuban/Irish (unexpected combination) Movie (on Netflix)  “Viva”…set in the slums of Havana (?)….  in Cuba…

it is about a young Gay …boy/man…who lives alone…his mother died years ago…he never knew his father (an ex-boxer) who is in jail for murder….he does hair and is attracted to the drag scene as he does alot of their hair…..and tries his hand at drag.

Well his father gets out of jail and comes home…….

It is Very Moving….and ends the way I wanted it to….and you have to watch the credits to get a final laugh….

Back in the 80’s I went religiously Saturdays with, I guess what was  my 6th lover Donald…to the Plaza on La Brea…

this movie captured the way those guys/gals performed…to that Wonderful Spanish/Mexican music that was Always a Torch song…that just Hooked you…the emotion was just heart wrenching…those gals sure worked for their tips….

Donald and I  arrived from work at my shop (Elizabeth’s Staircase  on Sunset in our work attire…(sports coats and ties)….and knew the maitre d’…the place was 100% Mexican staffed ….we got seated at our favorite table always…. in the third group of tables…(you Never want to be too close to the stage)…..the joint was Always jumping…with some white gays ..dark skin gays……but a lot of Mexican families…mothers and grandparents….

Back then everyone smoked profusely….the men’s room did not have urinals but a trough that you pissed in….

It was …(it still is going)….such an Uplifting place…..

I lost that lover (Donald) there to a young Nicaraguan…..
